Rod and Mayra Fry have been church planting in Mexico City since 1997. They began their third church plant in Ixtapaluca in 2016. In September, Rod and Mayra spent 3 weeks in PA visiting three of their supporting churches, Elizabethtown Grace, Mt. Joy Church of God, and Word of Life Chapel. Some of their interaction with these churches is related to plans for next summer short term team missions planning. Over the past 21 years living in Ixtapaluca, they have received hundreds of visitors (including Leroy Chapel teams) engaging them in ministry varying from construction and electricity to English classes, volleyball tournaments, spa sessions, and baking classes. They have gone to local public and private Elementary, Jr. High, and High schools to minister. They’ve helped us reach out with wheelchairs, hearing aids, reading glasses and puzzles. The relationship that has developed between churches in the US and the churches in Mexico has become very special. Missions has become relational, which creates the healthiest bonds and reminds us we are all equal before God. We can rejoice with one another and learn from one another. It has been exciting to see the churches there also engage in outreach, both local but also increasingly national. Part of their vision is an emphasis on reaching the 43 unreached people groups.
Recently, 12 of their church group went to Oaxaca in June with loaded vans full of donations. They visited 2 villages. Their mission: to be one of the first Christian groups to do outreach in Loqueche, a village without a gospel witness, literally without a single Christian living there. How do you begin to reach out to a place like that? They took clothing, hearing aids, reading glasses, school supplies and above all else, chickens! It is an agricultural area and everyone raises some type of animal. Each family received 6 chickens. This brought smiles from ear to ear. Needy girls received dresses from “Dress A Girl” in Elizabethtown, PA. Please pray for the Gospel to go forth with power in these rural communities.
Summer is always busy. 94 attended youth retreat. The times of teaching was encouraging as 9 kids stood and committed their lives to Christ. Mt Calvary Church group visited in June. Their team involved the local Jr High and Elementary School in ministry to paint the church building inside and out. They also brought 500 pairs of reading glasses through Restoring Vision.org.
Ten were baptized in the July 2025 Baptism Service, with ages ranging from 12 to 60. Some were the first members of their family to be baptized. Several of the adults had been reached by their children who have been attending kids events at the church
